The province has given 1.69 million registered poo

students stipends worth a total of 5.3 billion yuan ($777 million) since 2015, according to Guizhou’s Education Department.

While working out its strategy to impart knowledge to rural children, Guizh

ou has also taken into consideration that many kids come to school hungry.

According to Bao Benqi of the provincial Education Department, the Guizhou government has set the goal that

“each of the primary and secondary schools in the rural areas should have a canteen so that lunch can be served to every student”.

The meal is believed to help students improve their performance at school. Many studen

ts in the poverty-stricken areas had been coming to class with an empty stomach, since they did not have food at home.

“More than 3.8 million primary and secondary school students and

860,000 preschool kids are covered in the nutrition project every year,” Bao said.

The Information Technology Industry Council also w

arned against further raising tariffs. “Increasing tariffs will only continue to harm America

n consumers and businesses of all sizes and across all sectors, as well as threat en American econ

omic growth and leadership in innovation,” said Naomi Wilson, the council’s senior director of policy for Asia.

US chemical manufacturers also called for sensible trade policy solutions.

Cal Dooley, president and CEO of the American Chemistry Council, said on Monday he believed t

he risks of continuing to use tariffs as a negotiating tactic with China are simply too high, and potential benefits remain unclear.

Several organizations, including Tariffs Hurt the Heartland — the national campaign compose

d of more than 150 of the largest US trade organizations in retail, technology, manufacturing and agric

ulture — have in recent days highlighted the negative impact of tariff increases on the US economy and job market.

However, Xi said the country still has a lot to do to mak

ke up for the environmental arrears of the past, and its lack of forest c

over and vulnerable ecology remain problems requiring substantial efforts to conquer.

He called on officials at different levels to lead the public in making unwavering efforts to continue with tree planting programs.

It is also important to act on the understanding that clear w

He also called for greater efforts to improve the living environm

Environmental protection has long been a priority for Xi, who has called on several occasions for efforts to protect the natu

hina to ease permanent residency requirements in lar

China said Monday it will ease the requirements for permanent residency in many large cities as part of its new urbanization push.

Restrictions on permanent residence permits should be scrapped in cities with populatio

ns between 1 million and 3 million, according to a document outlining key urbanization tasks this year release

d by the National Development and Reform Commission, the country’s top economic planner.

For cities with populations of 3 million to 5 million, the qualifications for such permits should be “fully relaxed,” and the restrictions

for certain key groups of people to get such permits should be removed, the document said.

Previously, the country has already gradually abolished permanent residency restrictions in

small and medium-sized cities and towns with populations below 1 million.

The NDRC document also demanded cities with populations above 5

million to improve their policies and drastically expand the scale of permanent residency.
